I have sleep apnea and am scheduled to pick up a cpap machine this week. I found them to be uncomfortable when I spent the night at the sleep clinic but I’m going to give it a try. My sleep apnea is moderate to severe so I’ve got to try something to improve my condition. I’ve heard several people say they hadn’t slept so well in years after going on the cpap. Can anyone out there give me a review? If they are bothersome at first can you eventually get used to them?

    My goodness, yes! Not only will you get more restorative sleep, you will reduce your chance of getting any of several diseases that are linked to sleep apnea … such as Type 2 diabetes, stroke, and others.

    It IS an adjustment. I’ve been on CPAP for over 6 months now, and it was worth the adjustment. I found that it helped me not to just wait until bedtime to put it on … I would wear it for an hour or so before bed while reading or watching TV. Then I was used to having it on when I went to bed.

    The primary reason people don’t like CPAP is that they are not properly fitted for their mask or their pressure is set incorrectly. Then they give up. Not a wise thing to do.

    I won’t even travel for one night without taking it along with me.

    You can get used to them, and they really help your overall health. Give it a try, it’s worth it. You can always stop if it’s too bothersome.

    cpap is definitely uncomfortable but it has the potential to improve on your sleep markedly. if it does then there are different types of cpap devices that you can try out, it does improve the sleep quality and persons functionality. It does also improve the health, improved lung function, reduced chances of right heart failure etc good luck

    It is bothersome, but if you persist with using them, then you will sleep better and feel much better. Over time, they can improve your health due to sleeping well and help prevent infections and even car accidents!

    I know LOTS of ppl with a CPAP, all of whom say life is so much better!
    Apnea is hard on your body, and was the main contributor to my Dad’s death at 58 of heart failure.
    I hope it helps you, and it is WORTH a try.

    People who are morbidly obese are the ones with sleep apnea and you have to try and drop weight to get rid of it.

    They are annoying at first. I think that the benefits you receive from being able to breath at night will be worth it. I have had patients that have had up to fifty periods of apnea a hour. Think about it, that is someone who stops breathing for a period of time every minute. Use the CPAP it will really help you feel refreshed the next day. You will get use to it. Just hang in there.

    yes they work very well
    they do improve your health indirectly
    uncomfortable-not really-especially, when weighed against the benefits of using one
    quiet-yes
    get one,persevere,start a better life-
    try to lose weight ,it’s the best help against apnea
    if you drink alcohol stop-you’ll live to NOT regret it
    same with smoking, stop now
    if you don’t follow this advice you will get no lasting benefit from CPAP

    Absolutely, The use can eliminate all problems due to snoring and daytime sleepiness. Also I is shown to lower high blood pressure, cholesterol, stress, and many other health problems. I use one every night and wouldn’t go without it!

    It takes about 2 weeks to get use to the machine. They are wonderful once you get use to them, I promise you! I hated mine at first! But my wife wanted me to live! I swear that it made me feel 20 years younger ( i am 61). I fought against it at first! But it is the best thing that has ever happened to me, I only wish I hadden’t been such a hard headed sonofwhaterver in resisting to go to the sleep lab in the first place!

    Give it time you will really feel better! Try different face pieces including the type that just fit in your nose only … try it out and use a chin strap to keep your mouth closed. It keeps your face free!
